Words Change or Establish Circumstances
You will notice that Jesus did not say to the mountain, “You are getting bigger. I will never get over you. You will hinder me the rest of my life.” But this is exactly what many people are saying, not knowing they are establishing the circumstances that rule their life. They are using the very principle that Jesus taught in reverse. They are establishing the adversity in their life, even by their praying. I know, I’ve been there and done that. I don’t want to do that anymore.
Have you ever prayed and said, “Lord, I’ve prayed, but it’s not getting any better, it’s getting worse,” or “I’ll never get over this situation or this circumstance?” This is the exact opposite of what Jesus said to do.
In Luke 17:6 after the apostles had asked Him to increase their faith, Jesus said, “If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.” The Greek says, “you would say and it would obey you.” Notice He didn’t say a thing about giving them more faith. He’s telling them how to plant their faith by saying.
You must use what faith you have based on the authority of the Word, then it will grow. So Jesus was saying, if you have faith that will not change, you would say “be removed” and the situation, the circumstances, or the inanimate object would obey you.
The problem comes when you are saying, “This is hindering me and I will never get over it. I will have a problem with this the rest of my life.” You are actually using your words to establish circumstances that will continue to hinder you.
Now let’s take into consideration what Paul said in Romans 10:6-8, “…the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise… The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach.” Paul’s statement seems to amplify Proverbs 18:20, “A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth…”
I believe the word “belly” is referring to the human spirit – the real you (innermost being). In other words, your spirit will be satisfied with what you say. Proverbs 18:14 says, “The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity...” The word “sustain” reveals what your spirit accepts as truth from your mouth will hold in an infirmity, but it seems the same principle indicates it could hold off that infirmity, being dependent upon what we say.
The Hebrew word “sustain” found in Strong’s Concordance #3557 means, “to keep in, to maintain, contain, feed, hold again, nourish, to make provisions, receive, sustain, to provide sustenance.”
It is evident from these Scriptures that if we have what we say, believe and doubt not in our heart, then our innermost being (spirit) is satisfied with the fruit of our mouth and we will be filled with what we say. This is a formula for blessing if it is used correctly, or a formula for disaster if not applied correctly.
Have you ever heard someone say, “I’ve been trying to take the flu for three weeks. I just can’t get rid of this cold. My back is just killing me.” Our first thought should be, “What does the Word say about this?” and get that word in our mouth, “I’m redeemed from the curse of the law. By Jesus’ stripes I was healed. Jesus bore my sickness and carried my pain and with His stripes I am healed.” You will be filled with what you speak, either blessings or curses.
Let’s say a situation arises where you know you need several thousand dollars by the end of the year to meet your obligations. What do you say? The righteousness which is of faith says, “The Word is near me – in my mouth and in my heart.” So your spirit man asks, “What does the Word say?”
Philippians 4:19 reveals that God will supply all your need according to His riches in glory – IF you have given like the Philippian church gave.
Yet when you look around you see lack. What are you going to establish with your words – present circumstances of lack, or the promise of abundance from God’s Word?
Remember, the Scripture says you will be filled with the increase of your lips. At this point if the Word does not abide in you, you will establish your present circumstances by your own words. But if the Word abides in you, the promise of God will be fulfilled from your own declaration, “I have given and it is given to me, there is abundance and no lack, the Lord is my Shepard, I do not want.”
God gives us great insight into this in Proverbs 18:21, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
Since death and life are in the power of the tongue, you can speak death to the words of the enemy by resisting him with God’s Word. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword...” (Hebrews 4:12) Speak life by speaking God’s Word! For death and life are in the power of the tongue! Whatever you speak life to is what you establish. But you must make the decision! Which will you speak life to – God’s Word or the devil’s words?
Regardless of what God promises you in His Word, if that promise doesn’t get inside you, you will never be enlightened to the point that you can see it. You may hear it outwardly and know that it’s in the Bible, but the most effective method of getting God’s Word engrafted into your spirit is to speak it into your heart. God told Joshua, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” (Joshua 1:8) The Book of the Law was the Word of God in Joshua’s day. God knew Joshua would be filled with the increase of his lips. In other words, what he was speaking would create an image either of success or defeat.
Proverbs 3:3-4 says, “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart. So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.” How can you write on the table of your heart? We get insight into this in Psalm 45:1 where it says, “…My tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” You establish these things in your heart with your tongue. Man’s belly (spirit) will be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth. Your spirit will receive and be satisfied with what you speak, whether it’s right or wrong.
James 1:26 says, “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart...” Your words will deceive your heart (innermost being) into believing that what you are saying is what you want. Your words are giving direction to your spirit, “Find a way to bring this to pass.” That is why it is so important to speak what you desire based on the authority of God’s Word rather than complaining about present circumstances, for when you complain your spirit is overwhelmed. (Psalm 77:3)
Words are so important. You should never speak anything that disagrees with the Word of God. God’s Word is the final authority. Whether it looks like it is true or regardless of what you think, God’s Word is still the final authority.
What you think is not going to change God’s Word, but wrong thoughts and wrong words will change the effect of His Word on you. The point I want to drive home is that God wants to light your lamp! He wants to bring light into your spirit. The entrance of His Word does truly bring light.
In Psalm 17:4, David makes this statement, “Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me (myself) from the paths of the destroyer.” Our confession should be, “Father, it is by Your words that I have kept myself from the paths of the destroyer.”
Protect Yourself from the Enemy
This brings up another Scripture. “Whosoever is born of God... keepeth himself, and that wicked one touches him not.” (I John 5:18) Sometimes we want to leave everything up to God. But John said, he that is born of God keepeth himself from the wicked one.
You may ask, “How do I protect myself from the enemy?” David gave the answer in Psalm 17:4, “By the word of thy lips (God’s lips) I keep me (myself) from the paths of the destroyer.” In other words, he is saying to God, “I have taken the words of Your Mouth…” The indication is that he put them in his mouth. The Word of God enlightened David’s spirit until he began to see things the way God saw them.
Seeing The Way God Sees Us
One of the major problems in the Body of Christ today is that so many see themselves as the devil sees them – defeated, not as God sees them – walking in victory. If we are to be victorious, we must transfer the image that God has of us into our spirit, then we will see ourselves the way God sees us – victorious.
“I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake. I write unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I write unto you, young men, because ye have overcome the wicked one. I write unto you, little children, because ye have known the Father. I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.” (I John 2:12-14) It is obvious that God sees us as having already overcome the wicked one.
Then in I John 5:4-5, He continues with the Good News, “…whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” The word “whatsoever” is referring to faith which is born of God’s Word that caused us to be born of God. “Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?” (v.5) “Beloved, now are we the sons of God...” (I John 3:2)
We will not become the sons of God when we get to heaven. We are sons of God now. If we aren’t sons of God here, we won’t make it to heaven. We must have within us the image that God has of us. Then we will be enlightened and see that God’s fullness will dwell in us as we keep His Word.
The words you speak create images either of faith based on the authority of God’s Word, or fear based on our failure to believe and act on God’s Word. Just as faith gives substance to things hoped for (desired), on the other hand, fear gives substance to things not desired. Remember Job said, “The thing that I greatly feared has come upon me.”
The point is that every circumstance or situation in life is subject to change if you are consistent to do what Jesus said in Mark 11:23-24, Luke 17:6, and John 15:7. But on the other hand, if you speak words of doubt, fear, and unbelief, you may establish bad situations and circumstances in your life forever.
I challenge you with the words of the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:29, “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” Here’s the bottom line – If you will be a consistent doer of the Word you will not be cursed, but rather, blessed in what you do. (James 1:25)
